358 Recently, Ross Ulbricht announced that he would be putting up several nonfungible tokens (NFTs) on sale to support his family. On December 9, his debut NFT was purchased by FreeRossDAO. Ulbricht created the NFT from prison and auctioned it off through SuperRare to fund future efforts to gain his freedom.
After announcing the launch of his ‘Genesis Collection’ NFT auction, Ulbricht, who is the founder of Silk Road dark web marketplace, sold his first NFT for $6.2 million or 1,446 Ether (ETH) at the auction. This auction was held at Art Basel Miami through the SuperRare platform. FreeRossDAO is the decentralized autonomous organization that was set up to help free Ross from imprisonment. It placed the winning bid.
FreeRossDAO website states:
“The DAO aims to advance prison reform and to share Ross’s work with the world and give everyone a unique opportunity to own a piece of it.”

The first nonfungible token, known as ‘Perspective,’ was drawn in prison using a graphite pencil and it is a part of a 10-piece collection of writings and artworks that Ulbricht made in his entire life. The collection also features an animated video that was made by audiovisual artist Levitate and Ulbricht made the voiceover about his time in prison.
All of the proceeds that were raised from the Genesis Collection will be sent to the Art4Giving fund, a donor-advised trust that was set up by the FreeRossDAO as a legal brand to fund new legal and court proceedings and raise a lot of awareness, as highlighted by the organization.
Later, FreeRossDAO has said that it wants to fractionalize the NFT into ROSS governance tokens which will be distributed pro-rata in return for the donor contributions. The ROSS holders will have a chance to vote on proposals and participate in the extensive guidance of FreeRossDAO.
Ulbricht’s nonfungible token ranks among the biggest sales within the past seven days, as reported by NonFungible.
