148 The Chedi Andermatt, a 5-star Chedi Andermatt hotel, will allegedly become the first Swiss hotel to accept digital assets as a mode of payment. The guests can now pay their accommodation bills exceeding 200 CHF ($218) using bitcoin or ether.
Turpial Airlines, the Venezuelan carrier, and the famous Belgian bar Dolle Mol joined the crypto craze by adding digital assets as a means of payment. These institutions appear to have put some trust in cryptos which means that the crypto market is maturing.
Crypto Adoption In The Alps
Based on reports by the local media Blick, The Chedi Andermatt started accepting crypto payments. To start with, the luxurious 5-star hotel situated in the Swiss Alps added the two biggest cryptos by market capitalization; ether and bitcoin. The guests can now pay their accommodation bills exceeding 200 CHF ($218) using bitcoin or ether.
Taking into the context that a double room for one night costs more than $600, the price limit of the new crypto option appears easily reachable. The hotel is located in the center of the Alps and has 123 rooms that have a spectacular view for its clients. Jean-Yves Blatt, The Chedi Andermatt’s General Manager, commented on the new development:
“Due to the popularity of cryptocurrencies, we are proud to be the first Swiss hotel to accept cryptocurrency payments as a safe and secure way to pay for their say.”
This hotel might be the first in Switzerland to support crypto payments but this move is not pioneering speaking on a global scale. In July 2021, the Pavilions Hotel & Resort let its customers book their accommodation with over 40 cryptos, with ETH and BTC being among them.
Furthermore, The Pavilions Residences, which is situated in Phuket and Niseko, started accepting crypto payments for property sales.
Belgium And Venezuela Are Also Represented
Turpial Airlines in Venezuela would also allegedly adopt the primary crypto as a payment option. The South American firm further stated that travelers may acquire flight tickets using bitcoin via the official site or through PayPal and Zelle.
The Venezuelan carrier is just a small company in its industry. So far, it has four international routes with a fleet of three aircraft. Internationally, Turpial Airlines flies to Tocumen (Panama), Cancun (Mexico), and Santo Domingo and Punta Cana (the Dominican Republic).
Dolle Mol, the Belgium anarchist bar, also joined the cryptocurrency bandwagon. Their clients can now pay for a pint of beer using digital assets. Nonetheless, the bar managers never specified which crypto they added. One of the owners, Grégoire, described the asset class as the future:
“Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin are the money of the future. We want to give everyone the opportunity to buy a pint with this new payment method.”
He said that clients are yet to take advantage of the new service. Nonetheless, he raised some hope that things will change when he compared the cryptocurrency sector to the Internet in the early 90s. The global computer network was not popular at the beginning. But today, it has become the core of nearly every human operation.
Grégoire also explained how the clients can pay for their drinks:
“If you want to pay for a pint with, say, Bitcoin, you can easily do so with a QR code. The money will then be placed in our personal bank account, and we will put that amount in the cash register.”
