Jackson, Tennessee Follows Miami In Adopting Bitcoin Operations

Jackson, Tennessee becomes the latest city in the US to move towards the adoption of Bitcoin (BTC) payments and mining, after recent crypto developments in Florida. Jackson Mayor Scott Conger announced on April 21 that the city is now actively exploring the option to pay its employees in crypto in addition to mining BTC and adding it on the city’s balance sheet.

The mayor also mentioned that the city is seeking to enable payrolls in various digital assets, mentioning coins like Ether (ETH), Bitcoin, and Litecoin (LTC). Mayor Conger said in a Thursday tweet:

“Local government will lead the way in #Bitcoin adoption, and along with it, usher in a new industrial revolution with sustainable economies that will help close the wealth gap.”

This latest announcement comes briefly after Mayor Conger joined the cryptocurrency community’s ‘laser eyes’ flash mob, changing his Twitter profile picture to include laser eyes earlier in the week. The cryptocurrency laser eyes trend emerged in February 2021, with the sector’s leaders and users changing their Twitter profile avatars to feature laser eyes in support of BTC’s price surge.

The mayor’s move follows in the steps of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, who backed a massive initiative to enable Miami residents to pay taxes and get their salaries in Bitcoin. The city commission has now supported a resolution to explore BTC as an acceptable investment for the municipal funds. On the other hand, a Miami-Dade County commissioner backed a similar resolution earlier this month.

The Jackson mayor said while responding to Mayor Suarez’s support of his latest cryptocurrency move:

“I’m just following your lead.”
